The second finish is a quilt that I started in December for my son. He wasn't too happy with it while it was in progress, but he is happy with the result. He thought it had too many light fabrics in it, but I assured him they were needed. Now he agrees I am right. First time in 16 years apparently.
I am going to add these to the January finishes in my sidebar, but first off to work and to get taxes done. Yuck to both.Update. I should have referenced the pattern for my son's quilt. It is noted in this blog entry here.
It is called Cabin Tracks from a Quilter's Sampler Magazine. I will add the issue and the shop name.

What a sense of accomplishment I'd feel if I'd gotten those two quilts done! They turned out great! I especially like the one for your son...glad he'll admit that you were right! And that you didn't go through all of that and he say he didn't like the finished quilt! How disappointing that would be! Good luck on your yucky tasks!

what a feeling to get 2 tops done and my what a mass of colour(i'm a whimp when it comes too mixing lots of colours )one day I may be braver-yours inspire me I must say

Wow - 2 finishes - that is starting the year off well. I really like them both. Your son's quilt is fantastic - lucky boy having a mom who makes him a quilt and realizing his mother is right.

I'm really surprised at a couple coincidences.

You mentioned Alex Anderson's Hopscotch, an all-neutral quilt. Interesting -- that's the quilt I almost decided to make with my neutral fabrics. I changed my mind just recently and decided on a different pattern.
The coincidence that sent a chill up my spine -- I mentioned that a friend had given me her leftover neutral fabrics after making her daughter a neutral wedding quilt. The quilt pattern she used was the same pattern you used for your son's quilt. I came here for a visit to your blog, and I nearly dropped my teeth when I saw that quilt. Both her quilt and your quilt for your son are absolutely gorgeous, and a LOT OF WORK!!
